Obverse : the two rivers Rhin and Escaut allegories are holding their hands, sign of closeness. Legend : "Jonction de l'Escaut et du Rhin par chemin de fer Anvers le 13 octobre 1843".

Reverse : a marine anchoir holds Cologne and Anvers blazons. Legend : "Union de Cologne et d'Anvers Premier anniversaire 13 octobre 1844".

Comment : very nice and rare train medal, engraved in order to commemorate the first anniversary of the junction by railway track of Cologne and Anvers (Germany and Belgium). In bronze, this larg medal (diameter 73 mm) is an ORIGINAL STRIKE, engraved by HART, without any hall-mark, on a very nice condition.
